Native Plant Nurseries

Stover Mill Farm is a small native plant nursery in Broad Run, Virginia, specializing in plants native to the Virginia Piedmont, with an emphasis on locally sourced ecotypes. We grow our plants with a nature-focused approach, without pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, and encourage gardening practices that support native wildlife and healthy ecosystems. Visitors can explore our gardens, see mature native plants growing in different conditions, and find plants suited to their own landscapes. Open by appointment, we welcome anyone interested in creating a garden that works alongside nature.

Most of our plants are propagated from plants growing naturally on our property or from local-ecotype plants obtained through the Clifton Institute. A smaller portion is propagated from plants that were purchased from reputable native plant nurseries over the years and are now established in our gardens; for these plants, the ecotype is unknown.

Stover Mill Farm is open by appointment so that we can spend time with each visitor and help them find plants suited to their landscape. Visitors are welcome to walk through our gardens, where they can see many of the plants we grow at maturity and in a variety of growing conditions. We hope this helps people better understand how native plants can work in their own gardens and landscapes.
