Join Rod Simmons for a Saturday morning Field Trip to to Daingerfield Island and the Potomac Greens Park in Alexandria.

Daingerfield Island  is a beautiful area with tremendous native biodiversity.  We can walk along the Island freshwater tidal marsh to the tidal channel at the boardwalk and see the tidal channel flow under the George Washington Memorial Parkway.  Then we can simply walk across the Parkway to Potomac Greens Park and walk the old tidal channel up to the boardwalk loop at Potomac Greens Park.  From this point, I can get us out to the Parkway and across to Daingerfield Island near the cove and not far from the parking lot.

Lots of flora and fauna to see!

Directions: Take the George Washington Memorial Parkway to Marina Drive, the sole entrance and exit to Daingerfield Island.  Park in either the small upper parking lot or the larger lower lot on the south side of Marina Drive. We will meet at the large lower parking lot at 10:00 am.

Wear sturdy shoes.  Rubber boots are recommended but not necessary.  Most of the walk will be along trails and boardwalk.

Co-sponsored by the Virginia Native Plant Society, Potowmack Chapter; Botanical Society of Washington; and the Environmental Council of Alexandria.
