Arlington County Parks’ Natural Resources Management Unit will be hosting three volunteer opportunities on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, June 6th, 2018 from 2 – 4 pm at Arlington Forest Park, located at 4801 Arlington Blvd (across from Outback Steakhouse) – We will be collecting Poverty oat grass (Danthonia spicata) to be used for propagation in our native plant nursery
  • Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 from 10am – 12pm at the Bluemont Junction Dominion Energy/Arlington County Parks Pollinator Patch located at the corner of Wilson Blvd & N. Manchester St. – We will be performing maintenance of the patch in preparation for possible supplemental planting and mulching. (This is a fantastic example of collaboration between Arlington County and Dominion Energy, so come on out to see it if you haven’t already!)
  • Thursday, June 14th, 2018 from 3 – 5pm – Volunteer nursery workday at our native plant nursery during which we will be (finally!) divvying up several grasses and goldenrod trays as well as planting seed that we have collected during the past couple weeks. The nursery is located behind the GW baseball field located adjacent to the intersection of S George Mason Dr & S Four Mile Run Dr. Please park in the lot in front of the field and follow the gravel path around until you reach the nursery area.

For all of these events, Arlington County Parks will provide gloves, tools, IvyX, and anything else that we may need. All you should bring is a bottle of water (if you wish). We want to make the most of the time we have before it gets really hot, so any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Please RSVP if you plan on attending any or all of these events as it very much helps us plan accordingly. If you have any questions about directions or anything else, please do not hesitate to email me at jgraham@arlingtonva.us and I will get back to you promptly.

Thank you to everybody that has helped out so far! If you’ve been thinking about coming out to an event but have not yet, these are great opportunities to break the ice, get to know our regular volunteers, and network with other like-minded people!

We hope you’re able to join us!

Thank you!
