Red Spruce in Central Appalachia: A Nexus of Climate Adaptation and Restoration with Will Evans

via Zoom only (please register for link)

Will Evans, Ecological Restoration Coordinator of The Nature Conservancy in West Virginia, will speak about red spruce restoration in the Central Appalachians. The Nature Conservancy has spruce management areas in both SW Virginia and West Virginia.
Will is going to give an overview of red spruce as a species in Central Appalachia, what lead to its decline, and why it is so critical to a climate adapted future. After building a foundation of why we care about spruce, he’ll dive into TNC’s restoration approach. He’ll touch on an ongoing genetic diversity and assisted migration spruce planting project taking place across Appalachia as well as their spruce release efforts in West Virginia.
This will be a Zoom only presentation.
