At our February meeting, John Scrivani will present a program on American Chestnut restoration as well as an update on the internship the organization is creating in honor of Carl Absher.

John Scrivani studied forestry at Clemson and Oregon State University. After earning his PhD in 1985 he taught forestry at Virginia Tech before taking a job as a Research Forester at the Virginia Department of Forestry.  John managed the research, tree improvement, forest inventory, and information technology programs. John was first involved in American chestnut restoration with breeding work at the Lesesne State Forest in Nelson County. John continued that work while at Forestry and, after retirement, as an active volunteer with The American Chestnut Foundation. John is currently the Virginia Chapter President and also serves as Restoration Chair on the Board of Directors of the national organization.
