Plant Sale 2025 — Erythronium americanum
Erythronium americanum (trout lily) common name refers to the mottled appearance of its leaves. It prefers woodland soils that are moist and rich. It blooms in the early spring, appearing under deciduous trees before they leaf out. When young, Erythronium americanum only has one leaf but once it matures it produces two leaves at which point a stalk supports a single yellow bell-shaped flower. It will die down to the ground returning the following Spring. It does not like to be transplanted.
Andrena miner bees are attracted to Erythronium americanum. This plant doesn’t suffer from serious insect or disease problems although deer occasionally will nibble on it.
