Plant Sale 2025 — Geranium maculatum
Geranium maculatum (Wild Geranium or Wild Cranesbill) is a great plant to add to gardens:
- It reaches from ½ – 2 feet in height
- It grows in part shade such as dappled shade under trees
- The white, pink or more often purple blooms appear between April and June
- The palmate leaves on this plant are attractive after the blooms have expired
- It is a host plant for 23 native moth and butterfly caterpillars
- Its seeds are eaten by chipmunks, mourning doves and bobwhite quail
- Deer generally do not like this plant
****Andrea distans is a mining bee found in Virginia that is dependent on Geranium maculatum for its life cycle****
