Plant Sale 2025 — Trillium grandiflorum

Trillium grandiflorum is known as both large-flowered trillium (the flower spans 3-4” across) or great white trillium. It is one of the showiest trilliums in Virginia. It is a woodland plant commonly found in the mountains and enjoys dappled shade and rich soils. Each flower consists of 3 white petals, 3 sepals, 3 stigmas, 6 stamens and a white ovary. The flower petals often turn pink as they age.

Trillium grandiflorum is rarely visited by insects, although ants spread the trillium grandiflorum seeds when they carry them away for elaisomes, which are small structures attached to the seeds that are rich in protein and fat. Deer do browse on this plant.
