Potowmack Chapter members Bob Dinse<\/strong> and Cathy Ledec<\/strong> will be honored on November 20, 2020 with Elly Doyle Park Service awards<\/a> by the Fairfax County Park Authority<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Elly Doyle Park Service Awards were established by the Fairfax County Park Authority in 1988 in recognition of former Park Authority Board Chairman and member Ellamae Doyle\u2019s years of outstanding service toward the preservation of parkland and establishment of natural and recreational areas for the benefit of Fairfax County residents. The purpose of the award is to publicly recognize a volunteer or group of volunteers for outstanding contributions to Fairfax County parks.<\/p>\n

Bob Dinse<\/p><\/div>\n

Bob will receive a 2020 Elly Doyle Park Service Award. The award recognizes Bob’s work at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center<\/a> in the responsible use and protection of natural resources through his conservation efforts.<\/p>\n

In addition to routine upkeep of existing trails, Bob alleviates erosion and stream bank deterioration, instructs and leads hundreds of seventh graders annually in hands-on trail stewardship activities, creates and enhances gardens, recruits and leads Fairfax Master Naturalists<\/a> volunteers for onsite projects, donates hundreds of dollars of native ferns and birdseed and, in doing so, effectively serves as a FCPA ambassador.<\/p>\n

Cathy Ledec<\/p><\/div>\n

Cathy will receive the 2020 Sally Ormsby Environmental Stewardship Award recognizing her 17 years of volunteer service at Huntley Meadows Park<\/a> and for the Fairfax County Park Authority. The award will be presented at the 2020 Elly Doyle Virtual Awards Ceremony. <\/p>\n

“Cathy\u2019s outstanding leadership and volunteerism, including President of Friends of Huntley Meadows Park<\/a>, have contributed significantly to the long-term preservation of natural resources at Huntley Meadows and throughout Fairfax County.”<\/p>\n
