From true evergreens like Christmas fern and Mountain Laurel through early-rising spring ephemerals like Spring Beauties to winter annuals like Cleavers, there are a number of native plants showing green in the winter. And there are also a number of winter-green non-native plants. All are worth noting, and we’ll see what’s showing at Scott’s Run.

This hike goes over bollards to cross Scott’s Run twice, and up and down steepish hills, some with ankle-turning rocks, so walking sticks are recommended as well as the usual water, snacks, and dressing for the weather.

Meet at the parking area across from Swink’s Mill Road; carpool if you can. Snow date Monday Feb 13 if there’s too much snow on the ground or the weather is really nasty.

Scotts Run is a VNPS Native Plant Registry Site.
