Join us on October 24 from 2pm to 5pm for a fall nature walk led by Margaret Chatham, FODM member, and Alan Ford, President of the Potowmack Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society. The walk will begin at the Dyke Marsh Haul Road trail entrance. The rain date for this walk is October 25.

We cannot predict which bright colors will be aflame at any given time. Some examples of what we might see are bright red sumac leaves and fruits, poison ivy and Virginia creeper vines in red and yellow hues, pokeweed’s purple berries and magenta stems and narrow-leaf cattails releasing their seeds.

Registration is required and the walk is limited to 20 people.

Please register by sending an email to info@fodm.org and put “Fall Colors Walk” in the subject line.

GPS coordinates: 38.777739, -77.050540

About one-half mile from the southern end of Alexandria, turn east off the George Washington Memorial Parkway at the sign for Dyke Marsh Nature Preserve and Belle Haven Marina.  Take the first left to go to the Belle Haven Park parking lot.

Walk back to the marina road, cross the road and walk east, toward the Potomac River.  In about 30 yards, you will see a Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve sign.  This is the entrance to the Haul Road Trail.  There are two posts with a chain across them
