Why do deer like YOUR yard? Why do they prefer your flowers and shrubs to your neighbor’s? Why do we have so many deer in Virginia? David Garst, District Wildlife Biologist with Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, will share the answers to these and other questions at the November 7th meeting of the Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society. Come hear David explain the biology of our native whitetail deer and describe efforts to manage this resource to satisfy multiple interests.
This free meeting is open to the public and takes place in the Kelly Education Center of the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, VA. Start time is 7 p.m., but the room is available at 6:30 p.m. so you can come early and get to know others with similar interests. A short business meeting will follow the presentation.
David Garst earned his Masters in Wildlife Management from Virginia Tech and has moved to the eastern region from southwest Virginia. In addition to his wildlife expertise, David is an entertaining storyteller. Come join us for an entertaining evening learning about deer
and plants.
The Pocahontas Chapter is one of 12 Virginia Native Plant Society chapters, and serves the counties of Amelia, Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, King William, New Kent, Powhatan, Prince George, and the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Richmond. In addition to eight monthly meetings and newsletters, the chapter conducts field trips and holds a May picnic and wildflower walk.
