We love Virginia native plants and enjoy telling people how to grow them.<\/p>\n<p>This land where we live was historically Tutelo\/Monacan. However our ancestors or ourselves arrived here in the New River Valley, we are learning a new way of managing the land for biodiversity which connects us to all who lived on this land and will live on this land.<\/p>\n<p>This gift of native habitats that were managed so well for tens of thousands of years by the Tutelo\/Monacan people and their ancestors now needs all of us working together to preserve it for future generations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please join us! <\/strong>\u00a0We meet on the second Tuesday of the month except for the months of June through August.\u00a0 In 2026, meetings from February thru May will be held at the Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Center at 725 Patrick Henry Drive in Blacksburg. \u00a0Fall meetings from September thru December will be held at the Montgomery County Health and Human Services building at 210 Pepper St SE Room 108\/109 in Christiansburg. \u00a0See <a href=\"https:\/\/vnps.org\/newriver\/events\/\">Upcoming Events<\/a> for info about programs.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings start at 7 pm and feature a speaker who talks about native plant related topics. We also host field trips to local and not so local areas that support native plants. (See the <a href=\"https:\/\/vnps.org\/download\/16876\/\">VNPS <em>Bulletin<\/em> Vol. 24, No. 3, June 2005<\/a>). <a href=\"https:\/\/vnps.org\/newriver\/download\/new-river-newsletter-fall-2006\/?tmstv=1695316218\">View our very first chapter newsletter<\/a>, the Fall, 2006 edition of <em>The Apical Meristem<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The chapter flower is the Fire pink or <em>Silene virginica<\/em>. Its flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
