Blacksburg Price House Nature Center

The New River Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will be coordinating with Sustainable Blacksburg this fall when we hold our second annual Fall Is For Planting Native Plants Sale. The sale will take place on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Blacksburg Price House Nature Center located at 107 Wharton St SE. Payments will ONLY be accepted through PayPal or by check.

The most destructive influence driving extinctions is habitat loss. We are experiencing a loss not just of our native plants as open land is developed, but an alarming loss of native insects and birds that depend on them. We are not only losing beautiful and beneficial pollinators like butterflies, but insects that birds need to raise their chicks, like caterpillars for chickadees and aphids for hummingbirds. From native trees and shrubs to native perennials, our hope is that we can begin to repair our frayed environment and see an increase in the life forms we are currently losing. Each of us can do our part by planting native plants, which will begin healing our environment, and ultimately ourselves. The sale will provide revenue to further the mission of the VNPS, “the protection and preservation of the native plants of Virginia and their habitats”, and will be used to provide educational grants for local youth to install native plant gardens in our community.

Details about the native plant sale and inventory can be obtained after September 1 by emailing
