Standing from 3-6 inches tall, this violet has few if any pubescence (hairs).<\/p>\n<p><em>Viola pedata<\/em> blooms from mid to late spring as well as occasionally in the fall. &nbsp;There are two color forms that are common.&nbsp; One has&nbsp;five lilac petals and the other has three lower lilac&nbsp;petals but the upper two are deep purple.<\/p>\n<p>In nature, <em>Viola pedata<\/em> can be found in dry rocky or sandy forests, woodlands, barrens, <a href=\"https:\/\/vnps.org\/jefferson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2014\/05\/aaarepp5may14feditted.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1339 alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/vnps.org\/jefferson\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2014\/05\/aaarepp5may14feditted.jpg\" alt=\"aaarepp5may14feditted\" width=\"264\" height=\"352\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 264px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 264\/352;\"><\/a>clearings, and road banks. &nbsp;It is commonly found in the Mountains, Piedmont, and inner Coastal Plain and rarely in the outer Coastal Plain.&nbsp;<em>Viola pedata<\/em> prefers full sun and dry conditions. It will tolerate damper&nbsp;conditions in part sun if it is planted in well-drained soil.&nbsp; The soil should be sandy or rocky to reduce competition from other plants; a somewhat acid pH is preferred.
