Dr. Manuel Lerdau will join us at our Jefferson Chapter meeting February 14th to speak about his study of invasive plants, focusing on why some invasives succeed and what impacts they have on native ecosystems. Dr. Lerdau is an organismal ecologist with the University of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Science. His research centers around fundamental questions of resource acquisition and allocation in plants and touches upon such topics as herbivory and tri-trophic interactions, atmospheric chemistry and air pollution, community and ecosystem impacts of biological invasions, and organismal controls over element cycling. His newest projects biological mechanisms underlying ecosystem responses to climate change, focusing especially on ozone effects on ecosystem. The pubic is encouraged to come and learn about this important topic!
