Trip Details
Our spring VNPS trip will take place the week of April 23 – April 30, 2017. We will visit special botanical and ecological areas in far southwest Virginia, where the Cumberland Mountains and Southern Ridge and Valley provinces intersect Virginia. Our field leader for the six days of tours will be Gary Fleming, Vegetation Ecologist for Virginia’s Natural Heritage Program. Many of you know Gary and the expertise he will bring to the sites we visit.
The six days of tours will encompass Breaks Interstate Park on the north and Cumberland Gap National Historical Park on the south, both parks located on the Kentucky border. In between, sites will include The Cedars and several important areas of the Jefferson National Forest in the Cumberlands. Although the hikes will be slow-paced, participants should be able to navigate some short stretches of steep and rocky trails, and hike up to four miles a day.
Cost
The price of the trip will be $850 (double occupancy, inquire for single occupancy). Included in the price will be seven nights accommodations, six lunches, and $300 donation shared between VNPS and the Virginia Botanical Associates.
Registration
Registration will open at 10 am on February 17 – the form will be present below after that time. You can also register by phone. The office number is 540 837-1600. A $200 deposit will reserve a space for you on this trip. Space is limited.
Note that each person should register individually to allow us to obtain an accurate count of attendees.
